Blue Bell History
Blue Bell Creameries began in 1907 as the Brenham Creamery Company in Brenham, Texas, about 70 miles northwest of Houston. Till 1911, when the creamery started hand-cranking two gallons of ice cream each day in an ice cream maker situated in a hardwood tub filled with ice, the creamery only produced butter. The sources of all primary ingredients, including milk, cream, eggs, and fresh fruit, were local. Along with butter, a horse and cart allowed ice cream in delivering to the neighborhood surrounding the creamery. Even though most individuals manufactured their ice cream at the time, the creamery’s ice cream spread through word of mouth.
Financial problems at the corporation began in 1916 and lasted until E.F. They hired Kruse as the creamery’s manager in 1919. at that time, bankruptcy was looming, so Kruse left his initial paychecks uncashed to secure the company’s stability. The Brenham Creamery thrived under Kruse’s prudent management.
The company bought its first motorized vehicle, which allowed it to extend its delivery radius and revenue. Kruse changed the company’s name to Blue Bell Creamery in 1930. They inspired its name by the bluebell, a native Texas wildflower that blooms in the hot Texas summers—the ideal season for savoring ice cream.
